Our History

Woodmont Investment Counsel traces its lineage back to two of the country's premier money management firms, J.C. Bradford and Stein Roe & Farnham.

In 1995, our predecessor firm, Davidson Partners, was founded. At the time, Davidson Partners was the fee-based investment advisor within J.C. Bradford. Founded in 1927, Bradford was a premier brokerage firm within the Southeast.

Davidson Partner's founding team, including its President and Woodmont's co-founder, Paul H. Kuhn, joined J.C. Bradford from Chicago-based Stein Roe & Farnham. Stein Roe, headquartered in Chicago, was founded in 1932.

In 2000, in conjunction with J.C. Bradford's sale to Paine Webber and ultimately to global brokerage firm, UBS, Woodmont's founding team saw an opportunity to continue our tradition of offering sophisticated investment management, customer focused alignment of interests, and a boutique, high-touch client service model, as an independent firm, and fiduciary to our clients.
